Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Characters We Are Thankful For

Its Thanksgiving week for those of us here in the US, and we are all gearing up for turkey comas, so much pie, and constantly saying all the things we are thankful for. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt was a “Thankful Freebie”, so Amanda and I decided to go with the Top 10 Characters Characters We Are Thankful For!

TTT is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, and is one of our favorite weekly features! She definitely has our thanks 😉

Molly Weasley – Harry Potter Series

For showing us that fictional parents don’t all have to be mean or dead or simply not present. She is the mother everyone needs and deserves.

“Mrs Weasley set the potion down on the bedside cabinet, bent down, and put her arms around Harry. He had no memory of ever being hugged like this, as though by a mother. The full weight of everything he had seen that night seemed to fall in upon him as Mrs Weasley held him to her.”

Jo March – Little Women

For being the first to break that glass ceiling. Jo knew what she wanted and it wasn’t the kind of life expected of women in her time. She was a force of nature and an inspiration!

“I find it poor logic to say that because women are good, women should vote. Men do not vote because they are good; they vote because they are male, and women should vote, not because we are angels and men are animals, but because we are human beings and citizens of this country.”

Hanna Donnelly – The Illuminae Files

For just being a total badass who is also smart, artsy, and likes designer outfits. Hanna made us completely fall in love with this series, and she did it with a whole lot of sass and awesomeness.

“’You might get only one shot. So shoot. You know who said that?’
The rifle clatters to the bloody floor.
‘Hanna FUCKING Donnelly. That’s who.’”

Kvothe – Name of the Wind

Amanda’s special pick, for “making me fall in love with a redhead”. A fabulous character from a fabulous series (that Megan hasn’t read yet…for shame), a must-have for the list!

“I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.”

Anne Shirley – Anne of Green Gables

For just being the whimsical, magical, always-see-the-good-in-the-world, fiery little redhead. Who doesn’t love Anne Shirley?

“I went looking for my dreams outside of myself and discovered, it’s not what the world holds for you, it’s what you bring to it.”

Simon – Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

For giving a voice to many who felt they didn’t or couldn’t have one. Whether it’s the book or the movie, Simon is a wonderful character who helps show that love is love!

“People really are like house with vast rooms and tiny windows. And maybe it’s a good thing, the way we never stop surprising each other.”

Katniss Everdeen – The Hunger Games

For showing us that girls can lead revolutions and change the world. Katniss proved time and again that your rights are worth standing up for.

“What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again.”

Sevro – The Red Rising Series

For being batshit crazy, completely bloodthirsty, and so full of snark and swearwords that we can’t even. If you’ve read this series and you don’t adore Sevro, then we cannot be friends.

“’I killed their pack leader,’ Sevro says when I ask why the wolves follow him. He looks me up and down and flashes me an impish grin from beneath the wolf pelt. ‘Don’t worry, I wouldn’t fit in your skin.’”

Ty Blackthorn – The Dark Artifices

For showing us that normal is subjective. He is our wonderful little bean and his story arc in TDA was great; we hope we see far more of him in the Shadowhunter realm, because there is no way his story is over yet!

“He grinned, and the grin changed his face completely. Ty when he was still and expressionless had an intensity that fascinated Kit; when he was smiling, he was extraordinary.”

Lila Bard – A Darker Shade of Magic Series

For looking for adventure and finding it. Lila wasn’t content with the life of bland hardship she’d been dealt, so she grabbed opportunity with both hands and pick-pocketed the adventures right out of it!

“‘Aren’t you afraid of dying?’ he asked Lila now.
She looked at him as if it were a strange question. And then she shook her head. ‘Death comes for everyone,’ she said simply. ‘I’m not afraid of dying. But I am afraid of dying here.’ She swept her hand over the room, the tavern, the city. ‘I’d rather die on an adventure than live standing still.'”

What character(s) are you grateful for and why? Tell us in the comments below!

  1. Great list! I love that Molly Weasley is on your list. The lack of mothers in SFF has always bothered me, especially mothers with agency, and Molly is the best. She’s a mum with a capital M, and I love how she takes everyone under her wing. 🙂

  2. Such a fun list! I’m a little jealous I didn’t think of this topic, myself.

Auri from The King Killer Chronicles is someone I constantly thank Patrick Rothfuss for with all my heart. Alanna from The Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce, also, for being strong and fiesty and everything I wish I was. And, randomly, Reepicheep from the Chronicles of Narnia, so small! So fierce! So perfect.

She was by far one of my favourite characters to follow during the Illuminae Files! Although I loved the rest of the gang too!
*hides in the corner of shame* I…. haven’t read The Name of the Wind either…. I’M SO SORRY!
I also haven’t read most of the other ones you have on this list…. *cries with shame* BUT I SWEAR I’LL GET TO THEM!! (she says again for what might be the 3rd year in a row T . T)
But may I just say, Sevro sounds like a very lovable bean. I am very excited to meet him. Why is it always the bloodthirsty ones that I want to adopt?? First AIDAN and now Sevro who I’ve never met???

I’m super-duper, ULTRA thankful for Gansey, Blue, Ronan, Adam and Noah from The Raven Cycle. The purest of beans. Ultra lovable. 10/10! 5 Stars! ALLLLLL THE STARS! Extra stars for angst, magic, magical talking forest, and ……. more angst.
It’s just… very good. I cry every time.

❤ Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope you both have a great time!! ❤

  4. Oh what a marvellous list!!!!! And I totally agree with the inclusion of the amazing jo march, gosh I loved her as much as a child. Definitely one of the most influential fictional characters that left a positive mark on my life :)))) great TTT you guys

  5. I love this topic! Jo March is amazing, and I love Molly Weasley and Anne Shirley! Hmm, characters I’m grateful for. Well, Hermione would always be a big one for me — I love having a smart girl as a heroine! And Claire Fraser, for being strong and opinionated even when women weren’t supposed to be. So many more…

  6. Omg! Yes to Katniss Everdeen!❤️ She is definitely my all time favorite badass female lead character and I love loved how she willingly took her sister’s place in the reaping even when she knew how chances of survival was 1/24. That is something and we all have something to learn from Katniss and how she took lead and made so much lives better even if that came with great consequences and paid a huge price.

Great list 👏🏽 I love every one of your characters as most are definitely some of my personal fav too😁😍

    Thanks for stopping by mine

  7. Awww! Who doesn’t love Anne and Jo!? Two lovely, favorite characters!! Love that you also spotlight a quote from your list of characters. So fun. 🙂

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland.
