January Unicorn Crate: Fairy Tale Favorites

January marked my very first month as a Unicorn Crate rep, and ohmywyrd this box was AMAZING!! I loved every single item in it, and decided that I *needed* to do a post featuring all of the awesomeness. This will be a picture-heavy review because, lets face it, the best way to describe the items is to just show them to you!

The theme for January was Fairy Tale Favorites. This box promised to include items inspired by classic fairy tales, such as Little Red Riding Hood, Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, The Princess Bride, and more! I was super excited for this box because 1) I loooove Fairy Tale Retellings (they are my very favorite sub-genre) and 2) the fairy tales mentioned include a lot that aren’t seen as much in boxes. We see lots of BatB, plenty of Cinderella, but Little Red Riding Hood and Grimm’s? Love it!

Photo Jan 27, 8 39 36 PMThe book for this month is Stain by A. G. Howard! This gothic fantasy is a retelling of The Princess and the Pea, something I have never seen before! Also, let’s talk about how GORGEOUS this cover is! In fact, Howard’s cover game is crazy good; the Splintered Series covers are fabulous, and RoseBlood was awesome!

Summary: “After Lyra—a princess incapable of speech or sound—is cast out of her kingdom of daylight by her wicked aunt, a witch saves her life, steals her memories, and raises her in an enchanted forest … disguised as a boy known only as Stain. Meanwhile, in Lyra’s rival kingdom, the prince of thorns and night is dying, and the only way for him to break his curse is to wed the princess of daylight, for she is his true equal. As Lyra rediscovers her identity, an impostor princess prepares to steal her betrothed prince and her crown. To win back her kingdom, save the prince, and make peace with the land of the night, Lyra must be loud enough to be heard without a voice, and strong enough to pass a series of tests—ultimately proving she’s everything a traditional princess is not.”

Two of my favorite items in this box were ones designed and made by Unicorn Crate; a Grimm’s Fairy Tale enamel pin, and a key pendant necklace! The enamel pin is beautifully designed and is inspired by the Barnes & Noble Hardcover Classic edition of Grimm’s! I actually own a copy of this book, so I was ecstatic to get a matching pin! The key pendant is absolutely perfect and has so much intricate detailing; I am fairly certain it opens a door to an enchanted realm.

Another item designed by Unicorn Crate, this sleep mask is so soft and lovely! The design is so pretty and I love the quote! I have never used a sleep mask before, but I think this will be perfect for those days when I get to take an afternoon nap!

Photo Feb 13, 2 53 32 PMThis box also included some great practical items! I live in New England, where the winters last forever and are always super cold. It doesn’t help that I am pretty much cold-blooded and need constant heat or else I go into a stupor. SO these Red Riding Hood fingerless gloves are perfect! They are so soft and comfy, and the color is super pretty.

This month’s unicorn item was this adorable pocket planner! I am a SUCKER for planners (I maintain 5 of them!!) and this one is perfect to tuck into my purse to keep track of important events! Plus the cover is seriously adorable, and includes one of my very favorite Beatles quotes!

As a big Princess Bride fan (who isn’t, really?) I was so excited for this beautiful As You Wish art print! Featuring Westley and Princess Buttercup, drawn in tattoo style, this print is perfect! It was made exclusively for Unicorn Crate by Quyen Dinh of Parlor Tattoo Prints!

Photo Feb 06, 8 22 40 AMThe final product in this box is probably my absolute favorite. Created by Jessica Gadra exclusively for Unicorn Crate, is this STUNNING wall scroll inspired by Beauty and the Beast. I adore everything about this magical piece, and the more I look at it the more I fall in love! Not only is it gorgeous, but its printed on a sturdy material and attached firmly to the scroll ends! Too often have I gotten “scrolls” in boxes and they fall apart. Everything about this piece is perfect and I would have loved this box even if this was the only item in it!

And there we have it, folks; the January Unicorn Crate box! While subscriptions for February and March are already sold out, you can add your name to the waiting list if slots open up, and can snag a single purchase box in the meantime! And if you love the items shown here, some of them are available in the Unicorn Crate Goodies Shop! Enjoy!
